St. James the Less Catholic School is a fully chartered and accredited school by the Ohio Catholic Accreditation Association. Founded in 1949, our school is one of the oldest in the diocese and serves students from St. James, St. Elizabeth, Holy Cross, St. Thomas, and Santa Cruz parishes and surrounding areas.
St. James the Less Catholic School’s mission is committed to educating the whole student. Spiritual, moral, social, academic and emotional needs are nurtured in a Christ Centered environment that respects the uniqueness of each student. Our mission is carried out with an overreaching principle that every person is a child of God.
Three administrators oversee a staff of 27 full time faculty members, fine arts, media and physical education. The classroom staff is enhanced with ESL support, math and literacy support and Intervention Specialists. Students in grades K-2 benefit from educational support assistants in their classrooms. With the help of auxiliary state funds, the staff includes a full time math tutor, as well as reading tutor, speech therapist, special education tutors, school psychologist, school counselor and a school nurse.
A challenging academic experience encourages intellectual growth, creativity and critical thinking. 21st Century learning demands that students have the opportunity to explore, discover, and problem solve in order to best prepare them for the education and workforce needs of their future. Students participate in a variety of learning, community service, and worship opportunities. Students must develop a genuine desire to learn; they must grow and become the best they can be. Our school environment encourages creativity, individual growth, while preparing them to be lifelong learners ready for careers in jobs that don’t even exist in today’s economy.
